| 2007-08-30 | I globally changed 100's of pages today. We try to make all internal links open in the same page and all external links open in a new windows. Seems I missed the W3C Validator buttons (pointed out by Sandra G., we always appreciate the input, thank you!) So I globally changed them all with regular expressions and then I went hunting. I found that the Troop directory was the same way, another 50+ pages. I think I got them all now. OK, Hopefully I didn't break anything, but if I did, please contact me and let me know, I'd appreciate it. Also we've won another couple of awards! Check them out. |

Our Troop Committee Chairman, John E. McNamara, has written a book journaling his trials and tribulations during his 5 year battle with cancer. Diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma November, 2001 by Doctor Manny Lopez in Dunn, NC Survivor of bone marrow stem-cell transplant, June, 2002 "We all travel the road of life and on occasion encounter road defects and detours. Some of us will reach a detour and conceive what we think to be a dead end, only to find one of life’s crossroads and a choice that must be made. Come along, travel with me on the five year journey and the choice that saved my life." John E. McNamara Click on the book cover above to get more information. |
| 2007-08-17 | There ought to be a law ! I am so tired of broken links....... We have almost 15,000 pages on this web site and at least once a week I check for broken links and there is always 5-6. So many people want in links to their site they are obsessed with it, so you accommodate if they have something to offer and a week later the site doesn't exist. On top of that Xenu, the program I use to find broken links reports links broken that aren't. Time to find a better program I guess. If anyone finds a broken link please Contact Us. We would appreciate it greatly. |
| 2007-08-17 | We just added 15 more pages and 15 movies. BSA has produced some movies that explain each requirement for Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and First Class. They are really great teaching tools. I will try to have them all added by this weekend. I completed the Tenderfoot requirements tonight, which took a while to get the formats correct and embed Apple's Quicktime™ objects and still have the XHTML validate. So try them out ! Go to the Tenderfoot requirements and each individual requirement has a movie link. |
| 2007-08-15 | I think I finally fixed that weird IE scroll bar issue some of you were having. Please let me know if you have any more issues by Contacting Us. |

| 2007-07-22 | I changed the guest book. We been using that one for a while and I really didn't like the capabilities it had so I got rid of it. Check out the new Guest book. I converted allot of the old entries into the new one so we didn't loose much. Some of them I couldn't, like the one written in Japanese. |
| 2007-07-19 | The web site has been certified by a couple of more internet authorities "Trustworthy Web site's", "SafeSurf", ICCS and Child Safe International (CSI). Our goal is to provide a 100% child safe/family safe environment. In the coming weeks, the Web site will contain instructions on how to make your families internet experience safer for everyone. We will be producing documentation and instructions on how your child can have a safe email account and be rewarded with the benefits of communications delivered from the troop. We want to make it easy, simple and safe for you and your family to participate in this web site's offerings. If any parent or scout has questions about anything internet related, please make a list and bring it to the next meeting. In addition, the next Court of Honor/Parents night will have a segment dedicated to this topic. |
| 2007-07-18 | I have just "fixed" both the "Troop Directory" and the "Contact Us" Page. Somehow I must have messed up the Perl script. But after about 2-3 minutes of debugging it was an easy fix. I don't know how long it's been inoperable; I just noticed I haven't gotten any mail in a couple of days and that's unusual. You may have noticed, I completely re-wrote the Cascading Style Sheets and changed the menus from the left navigation bar (Which was also removed) to a horizontal menu on the header. I did this because some of regular troop visitors suggested that they would like more information on the pages at lower resolutions. I concurred and accommodated. The menus are a bit faster, I have about 150 ms delay on them. I may speed them up in the near future. In addition to the menu relocation, I added a footer to the pages and finally worked out the issues with supporting IE 5.0, 5.01, 5.5 and 6.0. Now the site has been tested for compliance with the following browsers: Opera (Any version) Everything written by me and not generated by third party products still validates under "XHTML 1.1 Strict" compliance. We take the extra time complying to provide the user base with the best possible browsing experience. If you need any further explanation of what I'm talking about, please Contact Us It works again ! LOL |
| 2007-06-30 | Well another year of summer camp is over. Mr. Mac had to go out and buy 85 merit badges ! You guys did a wonderful job. I've placed the PHOTOS up. There are 377 pictures from all that donated them to the web site. Parents don't bother trying to save the pictures off the web, each family that attended camp will get a complete DVD of all the originals... Hopefully by Mondays meeting. We had some pretty decent recognitions this year at summer camp.
Parents and scouts you should be proud, it was a long had week, broken up but some serious weather, no-one got hurt, everyone had fun and 85 merit badges ! I could go on and on, the kids did a great job. And Many, Many, Many thanks to the adults who gave up a week of vacation, so the kids could have this experience, you are what scouting is about. Thank you.
|
| 2007-06-08 | I am in the process of expanding the merit badge sections.
The Merit Badge Worksheets are still on-line. Please be patient while I update all the newest 2007 changes. This is going to take a little while, I have 125 new pages to write.

| 2007-05-04 | Cape Fear District's Spring Camp-O-Ree was a great success. A special thanks to the members of Troop 711 for putting it on and another big thank you to Canotka Chapter for doing the OA event. Very special thanks to Mr. Wayne Farrar for letting us do this on his land every year. This man’s heart is truly in the right place! Thanks to all the adults taking pictures we managed to get about 90 pictures even as busy as we were. We went camping so you know the weather was mediocre at best. The Troop 780 scouts did an excellent job in all the competitions. | 2007-04-17 | I know there is still a little strangeness going on with IE 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0. I am working to resolve it and stay compliant at the same time. IE 7 doesn't have any issues at all until I put in fixes for previous versions of IE. Then I seem to get overrun with scroll bars. The strange double scrollbars effect comes in when IE resolves some of the wildcard styles when it runs into something in CSS it doesn't understand. If I had a computer here with IE 6 on it, I could resolve it faster. |
| 2007-04-16 | Well guys our site won an award ! Read what Sixty Plus Designs had to say about your web site on the awards page. |

Awaiting the database entry for ICRA, it was paid for today. |
| 2007-04-10 | OK, I know the site is acting a little strange, especially for those using IE 6.0 or less (Get a real browser like Opera or Firefox) I am putting CSS hacks in so Microsoft IE 6 works consistently. Please be patient. |
| 2007-04-09 | Ok. The newest version of the site is up... Almost all the pages have been converted over to a newer standard... XHTML 1.1 Strict. I haven't converted everything over yet so there will be some stuff missing for a while. I'll update it as fast as I can. I will now continue to add to it. The pages are much smaller, you should see some increase in speed. If ANYONE has any browser compatibility issues, please let me know. Well as soon as I get the Contact Us page back up let me know. |
| 2007-02-12 | Congratulations to all the scouts who made rank tonight. Sean - 1st Class A job well done. We are very proud of all our young men |
| 2007-02-11 | 2007 Cape Fear District Klondike was a blast, check out the photos. Thank You Mr. Herb! OK, Here are our results. Keep in mind, this years "Catch" was that every event except the sled race had to be accomplished with each scouts' dominant hand tied behind their back. It was quite a experience, watching these kids put their skills into play using only their weak hand. Teamwork was a must.
Troop 780 Shadow Dragons Patrol Vampire Bats Patrol Falcons Patrol We're all proud of the efforts the young men put into each competition, the fun they had and the skills they learned. All of the leaders and your parents couldn't be happier with your team participation and true Boy Scout spirit! We were especially proud our our newest patrol "The Falcons" many of which have only been Boy Scouts for a couple of weeks. Their patrol leader and the new guys really stepped up to the plate during our latest adventure. I would personally like to thank the staff that helped put on the event, the beneficiaries of events like this make for a stronger community and we all reap the rewards as the Aims of Scouting are met. Thank you so very much. |
| 2007-02-08 | I'm expanding the site and the menus won't handle it so I'm adding new menus. There may be two different sets of menus for a while. Hang in there, when I get all the bugs worked out, we'll be back to one set. |
| 2007-01-30 | Troop 780 got 4 new scouts tonight and participated in a Webelos Cross Over check out the movies! Also I posted some pictures for the 2 Cross Over Ceremonies we have participated in this year. To all those that joined outright or crossed over, Welcome to Troop 780 ! |
| 2007-01-27 | It's a beautiful hot, sunny, rainless, windless weekend. We must NOT be camping... |
| 2007-01-21 |
We had a slight surprise this weekend, Troop 779 out of Coats Baptist Church (John Willoughby Scout Master) and Troop 780 share a camp site in Fuquay-Varina and some how we both of us went camping there this week. It wasn't planned but I think both troops had a great time, nothing like a friendly rivalry. Each troop had 13 young men attend and there were approximately 9 adults. Nothing like a mini camp-o-ree in the middle of the woods. Troop 779 is a quality program and any young men wanting to become scouts that live in the Coats area would be well served by them.
The boys did great as usually, I think the really cold camp out in December prepared them better for this one. I'm sorry no pictures were taken during this camp out I thought I had the camera, but I forgot it. |
| 2007-01-15 | Dutch Oven Care and Use section has been finished. |
| 2007-01-14 | he first troop committee meeting of the year 2007 will be held January 25th @ 7:00PM at the Divine Street Methodist Church. The agenda will include getting acquainted, choosing dates & time of future committee meetings, the charter and open discussion. |
| 2007-01-13 | A new section has been add on camping information. Under the information menu. |
| 2007-01-11 | Pack 780 held it's Arrow of Light Ceremony tonight. We'd like to welcome the newest Boy Scouts into Troop 780. After the ceremony the new scouts quickly adjourned to a patrol meeting formed a new youth patrol and elected a patrol leader. Congrats to Kris H. for being elected into that new position. Troop 780 would also like to welcome Sharon Honeycutt as one of it's newest Assistant Scout Masters. Some changes have been made to the Troop's and the Committee's Roster. |
| 2007-01-02 | Welcome back from the holidays. Just a couple of quick reminders: The meeting on Monday, Jan , 2007 has been moved to Thursday, January 11, 2006. This isn't really a change, it's been on the calendar for 2 months. This is a mandatory meeting and all scouts must be in full uniform. (New scouts need not be in uniform). On the 11th, we will participate in a Webelos Cross-Over ceremony with Pack 780 and welcome our new Boy Scouts into Troop 780. Please be a little early so we can get prepared. The January 15 and January 22 meetings will be dedicated to building new Patrol Kitchen Boxes (Chuck Boxes). We will build 3 of them, each patrol is responsible for their own chuck box so patrol leaders make sure everyone in your patrols attends! Click here to view the construction plans. I have clearer versions to actually work off of. Please bring safety glasses and work gloves if you have them. The troop has plenty of ear plugs for everyone and 5 sets of safety glasses but, if you have them... bring them. Parents: No tools will be used without adult supervision and instruction. |

Well another COLD camp out If anyone needs to know if the weather is bad in the future, simply look at the dates we have selected for camp outs. You can't miss...too bad we can't miss either !
In addition to Troop 779 and Troop 780, Cape Fear District Commissioner Dennis McKinney joined Troop 780 with scouts from Troop 125 out of Angier Methodist Church in Angier.
